Alfonzo named to AFL All-Ironman team for third straight season

Thursday June 26, 2008

June 26, 2008 – A day after being named First Team All-Arena, Chicago Rush linebacker DeJuan Alfonzo was named to the Arena Football League’s All Ironman team – the third-consecutive year in which Alfonzo was named to the team.

“I think everyone who watches ‘Zo play knows he is one of the most valuable players in the AFL,” said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee.  “He has an impact on all three facets of the game – offense, defense and special teams.

Despite suffering a season-ending injury at Cleveland on June 7, Alfonzo (6-0, 205, Indiana State) was Chicago’s third-leading tackler with 80.  He finished his season with three interceptions, four passes broken up and four fumble recoveries.

A threat in every aspect of the game, Alfonzo scored 11 touchdowns this season – six on offense, four on defense and one on a kickoff return.

Finally, Alfonzo was just as valuable on special teams, serving as the team’s holder on extra points and field goals, and finishing the season fifth in the AFL in special teams tackles.
