Saturday at Dodge Arena, we’ll find out if the South Georgia Wildcats made the best use of their bye week when they travel to Hidalgo, Texas for a week 6 match-up featuring the Rio Grande Valley Dorados.

The surprising Wildcats have built an impressive 3-1 record this season, and sit alone in first place atop the AF2’s National Conference South Division. South Georgia opened the season with a win against the Arkansas Twisters, then knocked off the Louisville Fire in an emotional 77-53 victory.

A tough 57-54 road loss to the Alabama Steeldogs in Birmingham followed on April 12, but the Cats rallied to post an impressive 62-42 win against the Tennessee Valley Vipers. “Three wins in four games is more than the citizens of Albany expected this season”, said South Georgia Wildcat fan and season ticket holder Charles Robinson. ”Now I hope we can win out and host a playoff game.”

Quarterback D. Bryant has completed 77-of-118 passes for 1,018 yards, including 25 touchdown passes and only three interceptions in his first season in Albany, Georgia.

Wide Receiver Chavis McCollister has responded well to the emergence of rookie star James Robinson in the lineup.

The Cats’ offense ranks second overall in the af2 with an average of 305.8 yards per game, and third in scoring at 60.5 points per game.

The Dorados, on the other hand, are continuing to make their mark on defense as they have rolled to a 3-1 record and sit firmly at second place in the tough National Conference Southwest Division.

Defensive Back Donte Williams has 14 pass breakups and an interception to go with that. Defensive Linemen Tolifi Liafau and Quinton Staton both have three sacks apiece.

The last time these two teams met in July 06 with Rio earning a 52-46 victory. Of note, the Wildcats have never beaten the Doradoes.
