Beat the Guru: AFL Week 11
Adam Markowitz, ArenaFan.com

I’m so tired of ESPN, it’s not even funny. One week the dump button picks up nothing that it should. The next anything that even remotely sounds like profanity gets bleeped. One week they’re the Arizona Wranglers. The next they’re the Phoenix Rattlers. Can someone explain to the “Worldwide leader in sports” how the Arena Football League works?

VooDoo go from pretenders to contenders
Tiger Weekly

Last year, the New Orleans VooDoo sold out for every home game thanks to season ticket holders. However, the VooDoo were not very impressive themselves, as they would finish the season 5-11. The high point of the season would be when they beat the eventual AFL Champions, the San Jose Sabercats.

Breaking it Down - 2008 Week Ten
Andy Lopusnak, ArenaFan.com

It took ten weeks, but now every team in the league has at least one win and one loss thanks to Cleveland knocking off previously unbeaten Philadelphia and previously winless Utah topping Kansas City. Six of the eight home teams won and six of eight games were decided by at least two scores. This and much more are just a click away in this week’s Breaking it Down.

Beat the Guru: AFL Week 10

Before I begin, I want to say what a great thing it is for the Arena Football League to get involved in one of the greatest foundations this world has to offer. For those that don’t know, The V Foundation for Cancer Research was formed in honor of Jim Valvano to raise awareness and bring in donations for cancer research.

And then there was one. With the Philadelphia Soul beating the Dallas Desperados Monday night, there is only one undefeated team in the league. Find out what this means historically along with many other tantalizing news and notes in this week’s addition of Breaking it Down.

The VooDoo has a boyish way of honoring one of its own, such as shaving-cream pies in the face and Gatorade baths.

Arena League Team Is Casting a Spell

At 26, Danny Wimprine lives with his parents, not far from his old high school, in a room full of timeworn football posters and state championship rings. His father has a dog named Boots, and Boots likes chasing squirrels. Sometimes Boots will catch a squirrel and eat it, and other times the squirrel will get away.

The VooDoo easily extinguished the winless Utah Blaze 70-56 before a crowd of 15,041 on Friday night at the New Orleans Arena.

I’ve Seen Enough, Give Us Replay
Jeff Sims, ArenaFan.com

It is not often that I decide to rant to the masses, but I have seen enough this season with bad calls, especially late in games, that are aiding in the outcome of games. With the competition committee looking to improve the game each year, it is time that they do the one thing that will improve this game more than anything else, give us some form of instant replay!

Recently, AFL commissioner David Baker confirmed, on a New York Dragons halftime radio show, "There will be a meeting in mid-May about possibly bringing in instant replay for the playoffs and ArenaBowl."

Beat the Guru: AFL Week 9
Adam Markowitz, ArenaFan.com

I rarely use the terms “best of” or “can’t miss,” but Week 9 of the Arena Football League season really has the potential to be all of that and more.

Breaking it Down - 2008 Week Eight
Andy Lopusnak, ArenaFan.com

Six road teams won in the AFL’s seventh week of 2008. The two home teams to win (Kansas City and Chicago) did so against fellow Central Division opponents and by a combined five points. Speaking of Kansas City, the Brigade won its first game of the season, while the Utah Blaze is still winless at the halfway mark. Also, Philadelphia stayed unbeaten to set up a battle of undefeated teams next week against Dallas, which had a bye this week. This and many other interesting tidbits await you in this week’s journey in the world of Breaking it Down.

It is the first time in Arena Football League history in which two undefeated teams will meet this late in the season.
