Valor Recap: Mistakes Haunt Valor Again

The Washington Valor (0-7) lost 51-46 on Thursday night inside of Capital One Arena against the Philadelphia Soul (4-3) in front of 4,711 fans. This is the second longest losing streak in Washington's franchise history.

New Valor quarterback and Offensive Player of the Game, Arvell Nelson, was on fire. Completing 25-of-44 passes for 345 yards and seven touchdowns. Three of those touchdowns to wide receiver Reggie Grey on eight receptions and 127 yards. Nelson spread the ball around and he wasn’t afraid to air it out either, four Washington wideouts had touchdowns, two scores by newcomer Jared Dangerfield.

All of this wasn’t enough to erase two interceptions and a turnover on downs in the second quarter. Philadelphia looked and was beatable this time around, coming off a three game losing streak, unfortunately it didn’t pan out. The Valor have yet to score more than 51 points at home in franchise history and the new final-minute timing rules have made it harder for these games to be high-scoring affairs.

Soul QB Greg McGhee is a different kind of threat on the field, voted MVP of the Game, he completed just 11-of-19 passes for 189 yards and four touchdowns but added two rushing scores, also throwing one interception near the end of the game. Philly WR Darius Prince is looking like a mid-season candidate for Offensive Player of the Year, or Rookie of the Year, hauling in three touchdowns on just five receptions and 61 yards. He and McGhee seemed to be on the same page the entire game. Prince currently leads the league in receiving yards. The Valor hit the road again next weekend to face off against Philadelphia on Sunday, June 10th on their home turf.
