The starting quarterback in the first two games of the season, Adrian McPherson, left the team Thursday and has been placed on the injured reserve list with a bruised left shoulder. He did not travel with the team to New York. His roster spot has been taken by six-year veteran quarterback John Fitzgerald, whom the Rampage claimed off waivers from the Kansas City Brigade.

It’s been 639 days since John Fitzgerald last took a snap in a game. At that time, he had just finished his third straight 3,000-yard and 60-plus touchdown season, while leading the Austin Wranglers to their first playoff appearance – a 52-35 loss to the Philadelphia Soul.
He decided to leave the game at his peak to pursue an opening for the head coach of his hometown arenafootball2 franchise – the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz. At the same time, his wife had the couple’s first child, making the move from quarterback to coach even more desirable.
