Any news/rumor on status of AFLPU CBA?
Other than I.S. retweeting every left leaning tweet ever posted, I don't see anything constructive on a CBA. Perhaps the AFL wants to have no CBA? Or at least one free of Soto at the top.
The AFL would be best served by a new CBA, but one agreed to under terms indicative of 2017 reality rather than 2005 history.
The players could strike, but as I mentioned earlier that from a tactical perspective, the efficacy of that tool directly correlates to how close a strike is called before the start of a season.
The owners, meanwhile, could at least in theory declare an impasse at some point, claiming that they and Soto are so far apart that there's no resolution possible. At that point they could unilaterally impose new work rules for the players, which would probably break the union as unlike, say, the NBA or NFL, 90% of AFL players aren't sufficiently popular that their absence would cause uproar among fans.
With every day that passes with no news on the CBA front, the chances of the 2018 season actually happening diminish, at least by a little. They still have months to sort things out, but once AFL 2.0 puts out a schedule? The clock is set and starts running.
