As badly as Las Vegas did this season, Jim Ferraro should not be allowed to run another AFL franchise again. This goof basically took the Gladiators and ran them into the ground.

Whoever suggested that Las Vegas go to af2, that would make sense, but you would have to realign the af2 so Las Vegas would be in the Western Division.

If Las Vegas were to go to af2, can anyone come up with a suitable divisoin alignment?

Thank you.

I think Las Vegas should stay in AFL and be given another chance with another owner.

Ok If Las Vegas goes you end up with 31 teams (assuming Austin doesn't join them). In the interest of balance (which I am a big fan of) and trying to keep travel costs down, I would go with 8 4-team divisions. This assumes you find a 32nd team somewhere but this seems to make the most sense:

American Conference
Eastern Division
    Wilkes-Barre/Scranton
    Manchester
    Mahoning
    Albany

Midwest Division
    Quad City
    Green Bay
    Ft Wayne
    Cincinnati

Southern Division
    Louisville
    Tennessee Valley
    Florida
    South Georgia

Western Division
    Spokane
    Tri-Cities
    Boise
    Everett

National Conference
Southern Division
    Alabama
    Arkansas
    Bossier-Shreveport
    [Team to be named later]

Central Division
    Tulsa
    Oklahoma City
    Lubbock
    Amarillo

Southwest Division
    Rio Grande
    Texas
    Corpus Christi
    Laredo

West Division
    Las Vegas
    Central Valley
    Stockton
    Bakersfield

I am at a loss for Southern Division as the other teams in the national kind of line up well, so it could be the division with the most travel. Now I can move teams based on where that new team is, but a lot of those divisions are pretty much stuck the way they are.

The other alignment that may work would be a 5 5-team division and 1 6-team division setup, but you could end up with a few teams having some pretty significant travel for their division games that way. Like who would end up in the American East and who gets the long travel dates in the American West. In the National, you could end up with a team with long travel dates to either South Texas or Central California.

Ok So I did a little work on this and here is what my alignment would look like on a map:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=112179980348342027321.0004345000b075645b5bd&ll=37.370157,-97.119141&spn=40.136127,78.310547&z=4&om=1

Albuqurque being the 32nd team creates a problem for, though I suppose you could swap Texas for them to get a bit better balance. If Albuqurque becomes Austin its not so bad but there would still be some reoom for juggling. There are also a couple of teams that are regional to each other that should probably find a way to play each other just for fan interest.

And now that I see this layout, I don't know how you get to a 6 division alignment that keeps travel costs down for everyone because with the 8 teams in the west, at best two teams will have long trips to play conference games.

Then Commissioner Baker ought to boot Ferraro out - that bum screwed up two pretty damn good AFL franchises.

the AFL needs to get rid of Ferraro cause it's obivous that he's just terrible as a owner. either that, or they will move, possibly over to Boston

It won't be Boston, they already have an ownership group with rights to the area...

Moving to Boston won't solve anything if you don't kick Ferraro out.

We New England arena football fans already have an af2 team - the Manchester Wolves. We don't need another.

We're talking AFL in Boston, ManchVegas, not af2.

Boston already has a NLL team. Now it's time for the AFL to come to Beantown.

I don't speak Italian, VooDoo, but what you said about Boston having AFL ownership rights made a lot of sense.

I'd like to know one thing - when do you think the AFL will ever come to Boston?
