Game Preview: Week 13 - Soul at Empire

Tuesday July 3, 2018

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Philadelphia Soul (7-4) will face the Albany Empire (7-4) this week after another thrilling, last second victory in Week 12. The game will be at the Times Union Center in Albany with a kickoff time of 6:00 p.m. Both teams enter the weekend in a 3-way tie for first place. Should the Baltimore Brigade stumble against the Valor at 3pm on Saturday, this matchup will determine the number one overall seed for the playoffs.

You want to know where the most action will be during this game? WATCH THE RECEIVERS! Albany WR Malachi Jones and Soul WR Darius Prince have been neck-and-neck for the league’s top receiver spot since the beginning of the season. Jones has totaled 71 receptions for 1070 yards and 26 touchdowns on the season, while Prince has recorded 82 receptions for 994 yards and 20 touchdowns. Also keep an eye on Albany WR Joe Hills, who currently leads the league in touchdowns with 29, and Soul rookie WR Aaron Wascha, who is tied with Prince for third in touchdowns with 20, 13 of which were scored in just the last three games.

On the defensive side of the ball for the Soul, you should be watching DB Dwayne Hollis. Hollis was defending the intended target on the failed two-point conversion that sealed the win for the Soul last week and has totaled 58 tackles this season. As for Albany, LB Terence Moore has been its biggest playmaker this season. Moore leads the league in interceptions (5), is second in total tackles (65) and third in forced fumbles (2).

“There are many ways the rest of the season can play out,” said Soul Head Coach Clint Dolezel. “But we are going to treat this game like any other as we get out there and get to work.”

Coming Up Next: Depending on the outcome on the Week 13 games, the Philadelphia Soul will host their home playoff game on either Sunday, July 15th or Saturday, July 21st.
