Storm Adds Quarterback To Roster

 Tampa Bay acquires quarterback Warren Smith

TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Storm has acquired quarterback Warren Smith, announced vice president of football operations Jeff Gooch.

“Warren is a capable quarterback that has experience in the Arena Football League,” said Gooch. “We are confident in his ability to step up when his number is called.”

Smith (6-foot, 200 lbs., Maine) joins the Storm for his second season in the Arena Football League. A native of Forked River, NJ, Smith spent the 2015 season with the Spokane Shock. He would start in 8-of-10 games for the Shock and complete 158-of-247 passes for 1,816 yards and 32 touchdowns. Smith would also add five touchdowns on the ground on 31 rushing attempts for 119 yards.

He began his professional career in 2012 in the German Football League where he helped lead the Dresden Monarchs to a 10-0 record. Smith would also find success in the PIFL beginning in 2013 with the Richmond Raiders. In 2014, Smith would move on to the Trenton Freedom where he started in 12 games and accounted for 59 total touchdowns (46-passing, 13-rushing). His performance in 2014 earned him the PIFL MVP award.

Smith began his collegiate career at Iona College before transferring to the University of Maine. As a senior in 2011, Smith put together his best collegiate performance for the Black Bears, completing 270-of-425 passes for 3,122 yards and 22 touchdowns. He would add 106 rushing attempts for 456 yards and six touchdowns. His performance during his senior season earned him Second Team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors.

The team placed quarterback Jason Boltus on inactive reserve.
