Thunder Announce "Christmas in July" Theme Night

PORTLAND – The Portland Thunder are set to host their inaugural “Christmas in July” night, presented by Aaron’s, when they face the Jacksonville Sharks on Saturday, July 11, at Moda Center. Kickoff is set for 7:00PM.

The first 1500 fans in attendance will receive a Thunder winter beanie, also presented by Aaron’s. The bobble hat is red and black, and will feature the Thunder wordmark. Exclusive winter-themed Thunder merchandise will be available at the merchandise stand outside entrance A-25 on the main concourse.

With the Arena Football League primarily hosting their games at indoor facilities, inclement weather is normally not much of a hindrance. This theme night will look to change that, with what is believed to be the AFL’s first ever snow game, as manufactured snow will fall inside Moda Center.

“We are extremely excited to introduce Arena Football to snow,” stated Thunder president Cory Howerton. “This will be the first time it has snowed at an indoor football game, and it will be a memorable night as we push toward a playoff berth.”

Additionally, Santa Claus will be on hand, taking pictures with children and fans outside entrance A-5 pre-game through the first quarter.

Finally, all fans in attendance are urged to bring a stuffed toy to the game, as part of the inaugural Les Schwab Teddy Bear Toss, in support of the Portland Marines Toys for Tots Foundation. Following the Thunder’s first touchdown of the game, fans will be asked to throw said stuffed toys onto the field. All toys tossed will be collected and distributed to disadvantaged children by the Portland Marines Toys for Tots Foundation this upcoming holiday season. Fans can purchase the “Teddy Bear Toss” Ticket Package, which features four tickets, four teddy bears for tossing, four hot dogs, and four sodas for $78.
