SaberCats add veteran receiver Maurice Purify

 (SAN JOSE, Calif.) – The San Jose SaberCats announced today that they have been assigned wide receiver Maurice Purify.

“Maurice is a proven champion in this league and adds another dimension to our offense,” said Owner and Head Coach Darren Arbet.

Purify (6’4 230) spent the past three seasons with the Arizona Rattlers, winning the ArenaBowl championship each season, recording an Arena Football League record seven touchdowns in the 2012 ArenaBowl XXV.

In 2011, Purify was named AFL Rookie of the Year as a member of the Georgia Force, where he hauled in 130 receptions for 1653 yards and 46 touchdowns.

As an undrafted free agent, Purify joined the National Football League, signing with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2008.

Purify is a native of Eureka, California, and played at San Francisco City College before transferring to the University of Nebraska. As a Cornhusker, Purify was named to the Second Team All-Big 12 in 2006 as well as the team’s Offensive Most Valuable Player and All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2007. He ended his collegiate career with 91 receptions for 1,444 yards and 16 touchdowns.
