Second Team All-Arena Performer Comes to Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (November 20, 2014) – The Philadelphia Soul have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Second Team All-Arena Center, Shannon Breen (6’5, 310, West Virginia Wesleyan). With the addition of one of the league’s best offensive lineman, Philadelphia continues to solidify their offensive line in preparations for the upcoming 2015 season.

“Shannon will be able to come in and help us right away,” said Soul head coach Clint Dolezel. “We have continually had one of the best offensive lines in the league under (Coach) Phil Bogle’s guidance, and this is a move to keep the tradition going. We are excited to have Shannon in the fold for next season.”

Breen has been one of the most consistent players at his position during his time in the Arena Football League. After two seasons with the Cleveland Gladiators, starting all 18 games in 2014, he participated in the AFL China exhibition games in Honolulu, HI and Beijing, China.

Before arriving in Cleveland with the Gladiators, Breen has had prior experience playing indoors with the Green Bay Blizzard of the Indoor Football League and seeing action in four games with the Milwaukee Mustangs of the Arena Football League, both in 2012. Breen has had workouts with the New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts and the Cleveland Browns.

Growing up in Frederick, Maryland, Shannon graduated from Linganore High School in 2007. He then went on to attend West Virginia Wesleyan, where he would become a four-year starter and a two-year captain on their offensive line. Breen would become a two time All-WVIAC offensive lineman at both center and left tackle while leading his team to a 9-2 record and the school’s first Top 25 appearance his final season before graduating in 2011. During his college career, he was selected to two All-Star games, the 2010 All American Bowl (Top D-II & D-III players) and the 2011 Cactus Bowl (Top D-II Seniors). Breen was named the Mick Tingelhoff Award winner at the conclusion of the 2010 All American Bowl, as the top offensive lineman.
