Watson, Obeng Headed To Destroyers

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Oct. 2, 2008) –
The three-time ArenaBowl champion San Jose SaberCats today acquired offensive lineman Howard Duncan from the Columbus Destroyers in exchange for linebacker Steve Watson and offensive lineman William Obeng, announced head coach and general manager Darren Arbet.

Duncan (6-4, 300) spent the past three seasons with Columbus and started every game on the offensive line over the last two years, including a start in ArenaBowl XXI against San Jose. He joined the Destroyers after a season with the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz of arenafootball2.

An All-Big 12 selection during his career at the University of Oklahoma, the Kansas City, Kansas native was also a member of the Sooners’ 2000 National Championship team.

He transferred to OU from Butler County Community College in El Dorado, Kansas, where he helped guide the Grizzlies to a 23-1 record and two national championships earning Jayhawk Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year and National Junior College Athletic Association All-America honors in 1999.

The SaberCats parted with Watson, who earned first-team All-AFL honors this past season after recording nine sacks. Obeng, who played collegiately at San Jose State, saw action in 22 regular season games over the past two seasons with 16 starts.

A premiere franchise in the Arena Football League, San Jose has won three ArenaBowl championships and captured eight Western Division titles, nine consecutive playoff appearances and owns the league’s best regular season record this decade.

Season tickets for the 2009 season are now on sale. Contact a SaberCats account executive at (408) 573-5577 today to reserve your season seats for only $50.
