Whittaker, Moten and Samuels Receive ArenaFan.com Week Nine Honors

For their performances during the ninth week of the Arena Football League’s 2008 season, Utah Blaze receiver Huey Whittaker, Philadelphia Soul defensive back Eddie Moten and Tampa Bay receiver/linebacker Lawrence Samuels have been named Offensive Player of the Week, Defensive Player of the Week and Two-Way Player of the Week, respectively, by the writers and staff of ArenaFan.com.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Whittaker (6.05, 220 lbs., South Florida) caught twenty passes for 208 yards with two touchdowns in a losing effort at New Orleans. He also had a rushing touchdown in the game. He is the first player in league history to record 20 catches and 200 receiving yards in the same game.

Others considered for Week Nine’s Offensive Player of the Week: New York QB Aaron Garcia, Philadelphia QB Matt D’Orazio and New Orleans QB Danny Wimprine.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Moten (5.10, 185 lbs., Texas A&M-Kingsville) intercepted Dallas QB Clint Dolezel three times and posted 9.5 tackles in the Soul’s 57-28 win during a game of unbeaten teams. The two-time All-Arena First Teamer stopped Desperados WR/DN Will Pettis at the goal line on Dallas’ first drive, then had the first of three interceptions on the very next play.

Others considered for Week Nine’s Defensive Player of the Week: Grand Rapids DL/LB Michael McFadden and New Orleans LB Norman LeJeune.

TWO-WAY PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Samuels (6.03, 220 lbs., Livingston) caught five balls for 45 yards with a touchdown on offense, then added two assisted tackles and an eight-yard interception return for a touchdown in the Storm’s 48-41 win at Orlando.

Other considered for Week Nine’s Two-Way Player of the Week: New Orleans LB Norman LeJuene and San Jose WR/KR Rodney Wright.
