Jackson, McEntyre and Samuels Receive ArenaFan.com Week Ten Honors

Thursday May 8, 2008

For their performances during the tenth week of the Arena Football League’s 2008 season, Cleveland Gladiators fullback Marlion Jackson, Orlando Predators defensive back Kenny McEntyre and Tampa Bay receiver/linebacker Lawrence Samuels have been named Offensive Player of the Week, Defensive Player of the Week and Two-Way Player of the Week, respectively, by the writers and staff of ArenaFan.com. Samuels is the first player this season to receive back-to-back ArenaFan.com player of the week honors.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jackson (6.02, 255 lbs., Saginaw Valley State) ran down the previously unbeaten Philadelphia Soul thanks to four rushing touchdowns on eleven carries for 49 yards in the Gladiators’ 67-55 win. He currently leads the AFL in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. Jackson is on pace for 406 rushing yards (fourth-most in AFL history) with 28 rushing TDs (second most).

Others considered for Week Ten’s Offensive Player of the Week: Utah QB Joe Germaine, Dallas WR Marcus Nash and Utah WR Huey Whittaker.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
McEntyre returned two interceptions for touchdowns and added 2.0 stops, a forced fumble and a pass breakup in the Predators’ 61-35 win over San Jose. He now has 78 career picks, which is 34 more than the closest active player (San Jose’s Clevan Thomas, 34). The two interceptions returned for touchdowns give him four “picks for six” on the season which is a new AFL single-season record. McEntyre also has the league all-time career mark with 18 INTs returned for TDs, which is eight more than the next closest player (Greg Hopkins, 10).

Others considered for Week Ten’s Defensive Player of the Week: Colorado defensive lineman Aaron McConnell and Philadelphia defensive lineman Dwayne Missouri.

TWO-WAY PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Samuels (6.03, 220 lbs., Livingston) had 4.0 tackles, an interception and a pass breakup on defense, then added 100 receiving yards on nine catches with two touchdowns in the Storm’s 51-46 loss to Chicago. Samuels also tied the AFL record for consecutive games with at least one reception (128 shared with Corey Fleming).

Other considered for Week Ten’s Two-Way Player of the Week: Tampa Bay OL/DL Tom Briggs, Los Angeles lineman Josh Jeffries, Orlando WR/KR T.T. Toliver and San Jose WR/KR Rodney Wright.
