ArenaBowl XIX teammates Nagy and Lee reunited
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The 2007 National Conference champion Columbus Destroyers signed free agent wide receiver Derek Lee, Head Coach Doug Kay announced today. As is club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Lee (6-5, 215, Tennessee Tech.) will rejoin quarterback Matt Nagy as the duo spent two seasons together with the Georgia Force (2005-06). The Force led the AFL in offense in 2007 as Lee hauled in 86 passes for 886 yards and 20 touchdowns. The College Park, Ga. native has accumulated 326 receptions for 3,547 yards and 79 touchdowns in his three-year career, all with the Force.
In 2005, Lee was named to the AFL All-Rookie Team as he finished the season with 113 receptions for 1,234 yards and 33 touchdowns. He set the AFL rookie record for receptions in a season breaking the previous record of 105 set by Mike Baker of St. Louis in 1996.
He continued to add to his accolades by being named to the AFL’s All-Arena First-Team and the AFL All-Ironman Team in 2006 where he set career-highs with 127 receptions for 1,427 yards and added 26 touchdowns. On defense he accumulated 15.5 tackles (12UT-7AT), three interceptions and one fumble recovery.
Lee’s postseason appearances include trips to ArenaBowl XIX (2005) and two National Conference title games (2005 and 2007). In seven playoff games, he has caught 53 passes for 586 yards and 13 touchdowns.
