Desperados to hold open tryouts
Tuesday October 10, 2006
In the continuing effort to upgrade their talent level, the Dallas Desperados Arena Football team will hold open tryouts on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Texas Stadium.
This year's tryouts will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, with registration for quarterbacks, wide receivers and defensive backs. Registration for offensive and defensive linemen, fullbacks and linebackers will begin at 9:00 a.m., while kickers will begin registering at 2:00 p.m.
All players will be evaluated in the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle and standing broad jump. Selected players will be invited to participate in an elite workout later in the day, where players will be evaluated in drills specific to the game of Arena Football.
To pre-register for tryouts, log on to the club’s official website at www.dallasdesperados.com, click the DESPERADOS TRYOUTS button in the middle of the page and download the registration form. For further information, contact the Desperados front office at 972-785-4014.
The pre-registration fee is $60 and is payable by check or money order. Registration fee the day of the event is $65 and is payable by cash or money order only. All registered participants will receive two platinum level seats to the Desperados home opener ($25 value per ticket) and an official Dallas Desperados Tryout t-shirt.
Through the open tryouts forum, the Desperados signed defensive specialist Michael Hawkins. Hawkins played in five games for the Desperados in 2004 and was drafted in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. In 2003, of about 400 participants, the club found Gladston Taylor. Taylor spent the 2003 AFL season on Dallas's practice squad. In 2002, three participants of the inaugural open tryouts were signed by the Desperados and participated in the team's first training camp.
All participants will need to provide their own workout attire: shoes, shorts and accessories. All workouts will take place on Texas Stadium's Realgrass™ Synthetic Playing Surface. The Dallas Desperados are not responsible for travel or lodging expenses.
