League and AC AFL Executives Give Media First Look at New Franchise
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ- Atlantic City AFL (AC AFL) held a press conference on Thursday, February 21, to formally introduce the franchise to its new home city. This was the media’s first look at team executives and coaches as they detailed information for the public to look forward to in preparation of the inaugural season.
The press conference was led by team and League officials who were joined by executives from the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA). After members of AC AFL made the official public announcement of the team joining the Arena Football League, AFL Commissioner, Randall Boe, addressed the crowd on the state of the League and the direction the League is heading. The team’s Head Coach, Ron James, was then introduced the media and presented his staff and the culture he is looking for in the locker room.
Following the introduction of the coaching staff, Trifecta Sports & Entertainment President and COO of AC AFL, George Manias, addressed the room on key events, partnerships, and dates surrounding the team. Manias began by updating the media on the naming contest held by the team. Fans had submitted over 1,750 possible name options, with the five most common entries being put to a vote to determine the team name. The outcome of the contest and official team name will be released at a later date.
Manias gave the media an overview of the team’s schedule, highlighting the season opener on April 27th on the road at the Philadelphia Soul. AC AFL will play their first ever home game at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall on Saturday, May 4 against Columbus AFL.
The team also announced its broadcast partnership Townsquare Media throughout the inaugural season. All AC AFL games, both home and away, will be broadcast live on 97.3 ESPN Radio, including 30-minute pre-game and post-game shows. 97.3 ESPN Radio host, Nick Kosko, will serve as the Voice of AC AFL and Play-By-Play Announcer for the team, while also co-hosting a weekly coaches radio show with James.
AC AFL also introduced Nicole Stephens, Dance Team Choreographer and Coach. Stephens will lead AC AFL’s dance team on the field at home games, and off the field at team appearances. AC AFL will be hosting an open call for dance team auditions on March 16 at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall. The auditions are open to all aspiring dancers at least 18 years of age with a high school degree.
Lastly, the team wrapped up the presentation by introducing the Official Host Hotel of AC AFL. Ocean Resort Casino will host AC AFL players and coaches throughout training camp, beginning in early April, as the team prepares for their debut season. In addition, when the team plays their home games, the visiting team and referees will stay at Ocean Resort Casino for the duration of their visit.
