Grady leads the Empire to the clinch the #1 seed, as Romain earns weekly honor for the second time
LAS VEGAS – The Arena Football League has announced that Albany Empire’s quarterback Tommy Grady and Philadelphia Soul’s defensive back James Romain have been named as the offensive and defensive players of the week for Week 13, respectively.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Grady (6’7, 245, Utah) completed 21-of-29 passes for 239 yards and eight touchdowns in the Empire’s 71-57 win over the Philadelphia Soul while helping his team earn the top spot in the AFL Playoffs. The former Ute ended the 2018 season as the League leader in passing yards (2,960) and passing touchdowns (81). This is the third time, Grady has won Offensive Player of the Week honors.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Romain (5’11, 175, Delaware State) tallied 4.5 total tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and two pass breakups in the Soul’s 71-51 loss to the Empire. In 2018, Romain recorded 54 total tackles, one tackle for-a-loss, 15 pass breakups, 19 passes defended, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and four interceptions. This is the second time Romain has been named the Defensive Player of the Week.
