Soul Game Preview: Week 12
Tuesday June 26, 2018
PHILADELPHIA, PA – After a big win in Washington, D.C., the Philadelphia Soul (6-4) will face the Baltimore Brigade (7-3) in the final home game of the regular season, Military Appreciation Night, presented by Sabre On Point. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. this Saturday night, June 30th, at the Wells Fargo Center.
The Soul defense will be the group to watch in this week’s matchup after pitching a shutout in the second half of last week’s game against the Valor. Defensive Player of the Game, DB Dwayne Hollis, totaled 10 tackles and one fumble recovery for 11 yards, while DB James Romain recorded an interception. The Soul’s defensive front harassed Valor QB Arvell Nelson all game long, finishing with three sacks on the night (by defensive linemen Jake Metz, Willie McGinnis, and Tommy Dover), including a strip-sack that was recovered by LB Joe Goosby for a touchdown.
Both the Soul and Brigade defenses better keep an eye on the fullbacks this week. Week 11 Offensive Player of the Game, Soul FB Jeramie Richardson, bulled his way into the end zone for four touchdowns on only five rushing attempts. Richardson now leads the league in rushing yards (125) and is tied for the league-lead in touchdowns (8) with Brigade FB Rory Nixon. Nixon has totaled 31 rushing attempts for 63 yards so far this season. The Brandon-duo of Brandon Thompson and Brandon Collins are the receivers to watch for Baltimore. Thompson leads the Brigade in receiving with 70 receptions for 669 yards and 11 touchdowns. In their matchup against Albany last week, Collins totaled 10 receptions for 131 yards and three touchdowns.
The Soul and Brigade are both fighting for a shot at the 1-seed, so this matchup will not be one to miss.
“We have some great momentum coming off these last two wins,” said Soul Head Coach Clint Dolezel. “But we’re back to work this week just like any other week and we’re staying focused.”
Coming Up Next: The Soul head to Albany for the regular season finale against the Albany Empire on Saturday, July 7th. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
