Valor Host "Christmas in July" Celebration This Weekend
Wednesday July 19, 2017
Pregame party, cookie decorating, family photo stations, team prizes, charitable donation opportunities and a surprise giveaway moment among holiday-themed festivities planned
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Valor will host the team’s first-ever “Christmas in July” celebration this Saturday, July 22 at Verizon Center. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and take part in the holiday-themed activities leading up to kickoff, set for 7 p.m. as the Valor take on the Baltimore Brigade.
The festivities begin with the “Christmas in July Pregame Party” from 6-7 p.m. at the Budweiser Brewhouse on the second floor of Verizon Center. Fans will enjoy normal Valor Hour drink specials extended into the Budweiser Brewhouse, with additional activities that include cornhole, a cookie decorating station and a holiday-themed photo booth. Photo booths will be available throughout the game at the Budweiser Brewhouse and on the first-floor concourse and a selfie station will be available in the Bud Light Party Zone. Additionally, staff will be distributing complimentary Valor-branded Santa hats to those enjoying the game from the Bud Light Party Zone.
In conjunction with Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation’s Family-to-Family program, the Valor have selected two families to be surprised with suite tickets as well as school supplies, clothes, shoes and uniforms for the upcoming school year. Valor players Tracy Belton, Everett Dawkins and Jimmy Gordon, as well as team staff, shopped at the Walmart Supercenter in downtown Washington, D.C., last week to gather items for the giveaway.
“The importance of giving back to the community is huge – especially for me,” Belton said. “I am from the D.C. area and I remember being on the other side of moments like this. I had a great appreciation for the people that went out of their way to improve the lives of others and it’s an honor to be able to do that for someone else.”
Finally, fans will have the opportunity to learn about and donate to MSE Foundation’s Family-to-Family program. Those who donate $25 or more at the table outside the Budweiser Brewhouse will receive a souvenir Valor football. Stickers will be placed on a select number of the souvenir footballs, serving as a ticket to more Monumental Sports & Entertainment team prizes – including jerseys, concession vouchers, game tickets, exclusive passes, gear, memorabilia and more for the Valor, Washington Wizards (NBA), Washington Mystics (WNBA) and Baltimore Brigade (AFL).
ABOUT FAMILY-TO-FAMILY
Family-to-Family, started 20 years ago by the Washington Wizards, allows all of our Monumental teams to “adopt” families in need during the holidays who are nominated by local schools and nonprofit organizations. During the 2016 holiday season 20 families were adopted by MSE Foundation and an additional 14 families were adopted by individual players, coaches and staff members. MSE Foundation is the official charity of the Washington Valor.
