Tampa Bay acquires former AFL Rookie of the Year and Two-Time All-Arena defensive back Greg Reid
TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Storm has acquired 2015 Arena Football League Rookie of the Year and two-time All-Arena defensive back Greg Reid, announced team vice president of football operations Jeff Gooch.
“Greg is one of the premier defensive players in the League and will provide an immediate impact on the field,” said Gooch. “He has a nose for the ball and brings added stability to our backfield. We cannot wait to see him out on the field, performing at the high level we know he is capable of.”
Reid (5-foot-9, 190 lbs., Florida State) enters his first season with the Storm. A two-year veteran, he began his AFL career with the Jacksonville Sharks in 2015. Reid joined the team mid-season and made an immediate impact. Starting in 12-of-12 games, Reid finished the year with 70.5 tackles, a tackle for loss, 21 pass breakups, nine interceptions, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and a defensive touchdown. His play would earn him a first-team All-Arena selection and Rookie of the Year honors. Reid’s play would also help lead the team to an appearance in ArenaBowl XXVIII.
The Valdosta, Georgia native didn’t suffer from a sophomore slump in 2016, starting in 15-of-15 games for the Sharks and leading the team in several defensive categories including tackles (101.5) and interceptions (8). He finished the season with 101.5 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, 27 pass breakups, eight interceptions, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and two defensive touchdowns. His play would earn him his second All-Arena selection.
For his career, Reid has tallied 172.0 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 48 pass breakups, 17 interceptions, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and three defensive touchdowns.
A former standout at Florida State, Reid started in 25-of-38 games for the Seminoles. He finished his collegiate career with 120.0 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, 25 pass breakups, seven interceptions and three forced fumbles. An outstanding special teams player as well, Reid had 63 kick returns for 1,553 yards and 89 punt returns for 1,117 yards and three touchdowns. Reid’s performance during the 2010 Chick-fil-A Bowl would earn him Defensive MVP honors.
The team placed defensive lineman Max Nacewicz on inactive reserve.
