“Time to get down to business”

TAMPA BAY – The Storm hit the field running for its first day in pads. After six months off, one would think there would be some rust, but that wasn’t the case at all.

“We got after it today,” said offensive lineman John Brown. “In the offseason, and even the first few days, it’s all touch football. But now that pads are on, everything goes. You can hit and see what a game is like. That’s why it’s so important.”

The players all showed the natural aggression that comes with pads. Displaying the hunger necessary to make this team. It was time for the team to get down to business and any observer could tell the team was anxious to get going.

“This is the first day of pads,” said defensive lineman Jordan Miller. “A lot of people are going to have to make decisions on who they want to be if they want to make the team.”

Some players utilized the day to get better and also improve themselves with the pads on.

“We worked on a lot of things, especially working on becoming more physical,” said wide receiver Michael Lindsey. “The receiving group worked a lot on route running and worked on timing with our quarterbacks.”

With the first day of pads out of the way, the jitters should be gone. The team will continue to work hard to improve itself and learn from one another.

Quote of the Day: “At the end of the day we’re family,” said Lindsey. “Yeah, we get after each other in practice, but when it’s said and done, we’re family and nothing can break that bond.”

Player Spotlight: It’s been said that speed kills. In the game of arena football, a speedy receiver can be a nightmare for opposing defensive backfields. Storm wide receiver Justin Hilton is one of those receivers that can give defenses fits, something he did during practice this morning.

The second-year receiver rejoined the Storm after spending some time with the Orlando Predators in 2015. His speed is a weapon that the team hopes to utilize in the future. Aside from his speed, he also has hands. During his first stint with the team, Hilton reeled in 38 catches for 500 yards and 11 touchdowns in just five games.
