2016 Under Armour Offensive Player of the Year Joe Hills returns to the Storm
TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Storm is proud to announce that it has acquired 2016 Under Armour Offensive Player of the Year, Cutters Receiver of the Year, and three-time All-Arena selection, Joe Hills.
“Joe finished last season as the League’s number one receiver,” said Storm vice president of football operations Jeff Gooch. “Any time you have the opportunity to acquire a player of his caliber, you have to jump at the chance. We are proud to have him back in the blue and gold.”
Hills (6-foot-4, 220 lbs., Tennessee State) returns to the Storm after spending the past two seasons with the Jacksonville Sharks. The six-year veteran finished the 2016 season as the League’s leading receiver, reeling in 116 receptions for 2,020 yards and a League-high 58 touchdowns. Hills’ 348 points scored accounted for 41.7% of his team’s total scoring output. His performance earned him offensive player of the year, receiver of the year and all-arena honors.
“Tampa is home,” said Hills. “This is where my family is and I couldn’t be happier to be closer to them. I’ve been away for a few years and now is the time to come back and put on the blue and gold. Tampa has the greatest fans in the world and I can’t wait to get back out on the field for them.”
The Palmetto H.S. (Palmetto, FL) product began his AFL career in 2012 with the Spokane Shock, appearing in three games. He would join the Storm later that year, spending two full seasons with team and breaking several records. Hills is in the top-10 of several Storm receiving categories including: receiving touchdowns (8th-93), receiving yardage (8th-3,761), receptions (8th-272) and yards per reception (2nd-14.6).
In 72 career games, Hills has dominated the competition, hauling in 597 passes for 7,512 yards and 194 touchdowns.
A model of consistency, Hills has hauled in a receiving touchdown in 72 consecutive games, just six touchdowns short of the League record (78) set by Damian Harrell.
The Palmetto native began his professional career in 2011 with the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League.
