Philadelphia Soul to play 2016 Postseason at the PPL Center

Wednesday July 6, 2016

First Round of Arena Football League Postseason Set for Sunday, August 7 at 6 p.m.

ALLENTOWN, PA – The Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League will be playing their regular season finale at the PPL Center in Allentown, PA this Saturday, July 9 at 6 p.m. Today, the Soul announce that their stay at the PPL Center will be extended into the postseason.

The Soul (10-3) have already clinched home field advantage for the first round of the 2016 AFL Postseason, and that game will be played on Sunday, August 7th at the PPL Center. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and the opponent is still to be determined. The national television postseason schedule for the first round will be announced by the AFL League Office shortly.

In addition to this first round game, the Soul are also still in the hunt to host the Arena Football League’s American Conference Championship game. They would need to complete the regular season ahead of the Orlando Predators (11-2) in the American Conference, whom they have already defeated once this season and play again on July 30. The Soul would also need to win their first round postseason game on August 7th. The Conference Championship game would be played at the PPL Center in Allentown on Sunday, August 14 at 6 p.m. should those two scenarios play out in the coming weeks.

“The Lehigh Valley feels like a second home to us,” said Soul owner Ron Jaworski. “The people up here are primarily Philly sports fans, and just like Philadelphians, they are tough, blue collar, rowdy football junkies and I love that. I’m pumped for our game this Saturday at the PPL Center, and I know the playoffs are going to be even more intense.”

“We’re excited to host the Soul for an AFL playoff game at PPL Center,” said Spectra's Gunnar Fox, general manager of PPL Center. “This venue was built for big events like this and we're thrilled to continue to provide first-class entertainment to the Lehigh Valley."

The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks have the exclusive rights to indoor football at the PPL Center, but waived their exclusivity in order to bring the Philadelphia Soul to Allentown once again, this time to bring postseason football to the Lehigh Valley.

The Soul have won four division championships, three conference championships and one ArenaBowl Championship in their ten seasons in the AFL and have the highest winning percentage of any professional sports team in Philadelphia during that time.

Postseason tickets will go on sale during the Soul game this Saturday at the Mealey's Furniture Box Office located at PPL Center to give those in attendance on Saturday the first opportunity for the best available seats. Tickets will then go on sale to the general public on Monday. PPL Center Club Seat holders will have their seats reserved with the first opportunity to purchase until Friday, July 15.
