Tampa Bay Storm vs. LA KISS Game Preview

Tuesday June 14, 2016

The Storm takes on the LA KISS this Saturday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m. EST

TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Storm (1-9, 0-5) hosts the LA KISS (4-6, 3-2) on Game Night, this Saturday, June 18 at AMALIE Arena. While T.T. Toliver continues his quest to become the League’s all-time leader in receptions, the Storm will continue to seek its second win of the season. Fan will be able to catch all of the action as Darek Sharp and Ian Beckles make the call for 1250 AM WHNZ. The game can also be streamed on the Lightning Power Play through the iHeartRadio app or on ESPN3. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

This will be the second meeting between the Storm and the KISS. The Storm hosted the KISS in 2015, winning the contest 38-34. The game saw defensive back Nick Addison reel in a game-winning interception as time expired to seal the win.

Last week, the League witnessed history as wide receiver T.T. became the League’s all-time career receiving yards leader, finishing the game with 15,232 yards. Now, all fans in attendance will witness another piece of AFL history as Toliver closes in on the all-time receptions record. The future hall of famer needs just five receptions to surpass Damian Harrell (1,164) to become the League’s all-time leader. Once he reaches 1,165 he will rank third in professional football history, behind Jerry Rice (1,549) and Tony Gonzalez (1,325).

Toliver is also creeping towards becoming the League’s all-time Leader in all-purpose yards. Currently, Toliver sits at 20,881 all-purpose yards and needs just 162 to surpass AFL Hall of Famer Barry Wagner (21,042) to become the League’s all-time Leader. When Toliver reaches this milestone, he will rank eighth in professional football history, behind Emmitt Smith (21,564).

The KISS enters the game looking for its fifth win of the season. After suffering a disappointing 36-point loss to the Philadelphia Soul, look for LA to try and turnaround its misfortunes against the Storm. Offensively, the team is led by quarterback Pete Thomas who has completed 74-of-136 passes for 955 yards and 21 touchdowns through seven games. LA’s top target is wide receiver Donovan Morgan. Morgan is having a great year, reeling in 63 catches for 808 yards and 27 scores.

On the defensive side of the ball, the KISS has Clevan Thomas. Thomas is a 10-year veteran that has reeled in 80 career interceptions. He ranks second all-time in AFL history, sitting behind Kenny McEntyre. However, if the Storm wants to have success through the air, the team will also have to watch out for KISS defensive back Frederick Obi who has four interceptions on the season with one returned for a touchdown.

Both teams will need to put together a perfect game if they want to succeed. Winning in all phases of the game could go a long way in leading a team to victory.
