Former All-Arena Football League QB to suit up against former team this week in Cleveland

CLEVELAND - The Portland Steel have activated quarterback Shane Austin off their other league exempt list, General Manager and Head Coach Ron James announced today.

Austin (6-1, 200 lbs. Hawaii) is in his fourth season in the Arena Football League. Last season both Austin (quarterback) and James (defensive coordinator) spent the season with the Cleveland Gladiators. Austin set a career-high with 4,651 yards and passed for a franchise record 101 touchdowns.

“I am looking forward that the addition of Shane (Austin) will bolster the quarterback position” said James. “We find ourselves in a better position today with this roster move. Shane brings a lot of success and knowledge of the arena football and I look forward to see what he can add to this roster.”

Austin had a stellar 2014 campaign where he led the Gladiators to a 14-1 record and a berth in the ArenaBowl XXVII. After completing 367-of-564 passes (65.1%) for 4,478 yards, 99 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in the regular season, he was named to Second Team All-Arena.
