Jacksonville bolsters receiving corps with veteran addition

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Sharks announced Monday that the team has completed a trade with the Portland Steel. In the deal, Jacksonville acquired wide receiver Jamar Howard in exchange for offensive lineman Duke Robinson.

The 28-year-old Howard (6’2”, 225) enters his fourth season in the Arena Football League. Howard spent each of the last two years with Portland, when the franchise was known as the Thunder. Howard emerged as the Thunder’s top target in the 2015 season, racking up 51 receptions for 711 yards and 14 touchdowns before suffering a season-ending knee injury midway through the campaign.

The previous year, Howard joined the Thunder partway through the 2014 AFL season after a stint with the Canadian Football League’s Edmonton Eskimos. Appearing in 11 games, Howard totaled 44 catches for 664 yards and nine touchdowns in his first season with Portland.
Howard first broke into the AFL with the Cleveland Gladiators in 2013. During his debut season, Howard hauled in 39 receptions for 422 yards and six scores. Before heading to professional football, Howard finished his college career at Central Missouri after transferring from Cincinnati. Howard is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio.

A fourth-year AFL veteran, the 29-year-old Robinson (6’5”, 345) did not appear in any of the Sharks’ first four games of the 2016 season.
