Soul announce 2nd annual Wounded Warrior Amputee Team vs. NFL Alumni Team

PHILADELPHIA (July 1, 2015) – The 2015 East Division Champion Philadelphia Soul (12-2) and Antero Sports announce the 2nd annual “Tribute To Heroes” Flag Football Challenge presented by Sabre Systems and supported by Military Benefit Association and Zimmer Tri-State, an awareness game with the Wounded Warrior Amputee Football Team playing against NFL Alumni on Saturday, July 11. The game will take place at Rothman Field at the Wells Fargo Center after the Soul vs. Cleveland Gladiators game (approximately 4 p.m.) as part of Military Appreciation Day.

The Wounded Warrior Amputee Football Team’s (WWAFT) mission is to raise awareness and support for our wounded warriors and their families. The team is made up of service members who have served and are now using a prosthetic device to engage in everyday life activities. By showcasing the team on the football field, the WWAFT seeks to inspire and highlight the perseverance of our service members (both active and former) who continue to face life’s challenges without excuses. The WWAFT currently stands at 12-0 versus the NFL Alumni, having defeating these alumni at the last four Super Bowl contests as well as contests in Green Bay, Washington, DC, Tampa and Atlanta.

The NFL Alumni team will be coached by Soul owner, former Eagles quarterback and current ESPN analyst, Ron Jaworski. Also scheduled to participate in the game are: ESPN’s Kenny Mayne, WIP’s Tony Bruno, Former Eagles Vince Papale, Ryan Moats Joe Pisarcik as well as former Pitt and Penn State Players Matt Lytle, Blair Thomas and many more NFL, Penn State and Pitt Alumni. “The entire night will be designed to honor the brave men and women who are or who have served our country and protected the freedom we enjoy and too often too many people take for granted every day,” said Ron Jaworski. “It’s important to show these heroes that we support them and that their sacrifices do not go unnoticed. This year will be equally, if not more powerful as last year’s with one exception, my team will be ready to go now that we have a better understanding of the talent these gentlemen displayed last year!”
