Game Preview: Arizona Rattlers (10-2) at LA KISS (2-10)
Tuesday June 23, 2015
Phoenix. Ariz – The Arizona Rattlers (10-2) won their sixth straight game this past Saturday night, with a 55-35 victory at home over the Orlando Predators (7-6). The win keeps the Arizona Rattlers atop the West Division in the National Conference. The Rattlers will travel to Los Angeles to face the KISS (2-9) this Saturday, June 27th.
Two milestones can be achieved on Saturday. First, the Rattlers can clinch the West division title for the fifth straight year with a win. Second, head coach and general manager Kevin Guy can also win his 100th game as a head coach. He would become the 6th coach in AFL history to reach that milestone.
Nick Davila shined Saturday evening, throwing for 221 yards and six touchdowns. His performance earned Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Game recognition. AJ Cruz also remained hot, catching two touchdowns passes, and running in another. His three scores earned J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Game honors.
Defensive back Jeremy Kellem extended his interception streak to five games as well, recording five and a half tackles along the way. Kellem and the Arizona defense smothered the Predators offense, attaining five fourth-down stops at the Snake Pit. The Riddell Defensive Player of the week award was given to Rattlers’ defensive end Michael McAdoo for his two sacks and game-high seven and a half tackles.
The Los Angeles KISS are coming off of a 56-48 loss this past Saturday, at the hands of the Philadelphia Soul. The loss comes after the KISS were able to pick up their first two wins on the season, versus Portland and the talented San Jose squad.
KISS quarterback Danny Southwick continues to find his groove though, throwing six touchdowns against the Soul this weekend. The connection between Southwick and star receiver Donovan Morgan will be an area of interest this weekend for the Rattlers’ defense.
The Rattlers and KISS will meet at the Honda Center, this Saturday, June 27th at 7 PM. The two teams met earlier this season in week 5, with the Rattlers coming out victorious 68-30 in Los Angeles. Jeremy Kellem had an interception in that matchup, and will be seeking a sixth consecutive game with an interception, as he leads the AFL with 11 currently on the year. The game can be streamed online at ESPN3.com or on the WatchESPN app on a tablet or smartphone.
