VooDoo Add a Trio of Talent

Thursday April 30, 2015

NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans VooDoo made nine roster moves Thursday afternoon in preparation for this Saturday's matchup with the Spokane Shock.

Three new players join the squad in time for Saturday's game including a pair of wide receivers and a defensive end. Speedy wide receiver Jackie Chambers (5-9, 180) previously spent time in the Arena League with both the Kansas City Command, and the Spokane Shock. In 2012 with the Command Chambers had 58 receptions for 751 yards and 7 touchdowns, as well as 11 carries for 49 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Adding some size receiving corps is AFL rookie Roger "Spiderman" Jackson (6-3, 190). The New Orleans native spent some time last season with the Iowa Barnstormers. During his college days at Arkansas Tech Jackson caught 92 balls for a total of 1,249 yards in 27 games.

Looking to generate more pass rush off the edge, New Orleans has been assigned defensive end Benji McDowell (6-1, 290). Previously playing for Head Coach Dean Cokinos for the Georgia Force in 2011 and 2012, and the Alabama Hammers during 2013 and 2014, McDowell has 41 tackles and seven sacks in his AFL career. He earned First Team All-PIFL honors in 2013 with 11.5 sacks and four forced fumbles in just seven games played for the Hammers.

To make room for the additions, New Orleans has placed offensive lineman Carnell Stewart on Injured Reserve, and newly signed nose guard James McClinton on Refuse to Report. Wide Receiver DeJay Lester and defensive end Darian Barnes were placed on reassignment, while Marcus Smith was placed on Inactive Reserve.
