Wide receiver caught 105 touchdowns in first three AFL seasons
JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Sharks announced Thursday that wide receiver Prechae Rodriguez has been assigned to the Jacksonville roster. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 30-year-old Rodriguez (6’5”, 215) enters his fourth season in the Arena Football League, most recently spending the 2014 season with the Pittsburgh Power. Though he appeared in just 10 games last season, Rodriguez proved to be a reliable target for quarterback Tommy Grady when in the lineup, racking up 85 receptions for 1,138 yards and a team-high total of 32 touchdowns. Rodriguez scored two or more touchdowns in all but one of his appearances in a season that included a pair of five-score performances.
Prior to heading to Pittsburgh, Rodriguez spent the 2013 season with the Orlando Predators, establishing a new franchise record with 41 touchdown receptions. Appearing in 17 games with the Predators that year, Rodriguez ranked second on his team with 119 catches for a total of 1,614 yards. Beginning the season with three-straight multi-touchdown games, Rodriguez later racked up 157 yards and five touchdowns in a game against the Tampa Bay Storm.
Rodriguez broke into the AFL with the Storm in 2012, immediately establishing himself as a top target. During his rookie campaign, Rodriguez led Tampa Bay with 1,653 yards and 32 touchdowns on his 125 receptions. For his career, Rodriguez has totaled 329 catches for 4,405 yards and 105 scores.
Before starting his AFL career, Rodriguez spent time with several teams in the Canadian Football League, beginning with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2008. After playing with the Tiger-Cats again in 2009, Rodriguez later logged stints with the Saskatchewan Roughriders (2010), Montreal Alouettes (2011), Edmonton Eskimos (2011) and Toronto Argonauts (2011). A native of Tampa, Rodriguez finished his collegiate career at Auburn.
