Thunder Announce 2015 Radio Broadcast Team
Wednesday March 18, 2015
PORTLAND – The Portland Thunder are pleased to announce Ron Callan as the new ‘voice of the Thunder’, with the longtime Seattle Seahawks and Oregon State University broadcaster agreeing to terms this week.
“Ron Callan is a Pacific Northwest Icon, and brings the level of professionalism to the broadcast that our fans deserve,” said Thunder President Cory Howerton. “We are extremely excited to have both him and Brian anchor our broadcasts all season long.”
Callan, a three time winner of the Associated Press’ Sportscaster of the Year award, brings over 35 years of broadcast experience to the Thunder’s Radio booth, all of which were based in the Pacific Northwest. Ron currently serves as the sideline reporter for Oregon State University football, and also hosts their pre- and post-game shows, alongside his duties as the Beavers play-by-play voice for women’s basketball.
Callan spent seven seasons as the sideline reporter for the Seattle Seahawks, from 1995 to 2002, and has served as the press box announcer for the NFL club ever since. Ron also possesses over 15 years of experience directing sports broadcasting departments from his time at KIRO 710 in Seattle and KPAM 860 here in Portland.
Returning to the broadcast booth in 2015 is color analyst Brian Perkins. For the last three years, Perkins has been a personality and producer for Alpha Media in Portland, hosting Oregon University Football’s Portland based pre-game show, Ducks Gameday, on 750 THE GAME. Perkins spent the 2014 Thunder season in the same role.
All Thunder Radio broadcasts can be heard on 750 THE GAME (750AM, 102.9FM).
The Thunder would like to thank Jeremy Scott for his service as the play-by-play announcer last season, and wish him well in his future endeavors.
