“We had heard talk of the possibility of limited radio coverage of the Shock games for the upcoming season”, said President of VPI Home Solutions, Ken Modica. “We are glad to step up and provide our community continued radio coverage of all the games, because we believe in the importance of the games being broadcast to ALL fans, whether they’re in their home, car, or in-Arena as part of VPI’s Deaf Valley, Home of the 9th Man. We were also excited to hear of the Shock’s commitment to keep the team in Spokane, and had no problem stepping up and partnering with them for the new Shock VPI Radio Network.”
Larry Weir will return as the voice of Shock arena football in 2015 and lead the call on all game broadcasts and coach’s shows. Weir was recently selected by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association as the 2014 Sportscaster of the Year for the state of Washington.
Weir has been the radio play-by-play voice of Eastern Washington University since 1991. The conclusion of the 2014-2015 collegiate seasons will mark Weir’s 24th as the voice of the Eagles in football and 22nd in men’s basketball. Beyond the in-game call, Larry’s experience extends to EWU football and men’s basketball coaches’ shows on 700-AM ESPN, production, advertising, minor league baseball, and the master of ceremonies for EWU events.
Home games will also feature Keith Osso from 700-AM ESPN assisting as the color commentator, along with appearances by special guests including former Shock players, community partners, and individuals that have been involved with the team over the course of the ten electrifying seasons. The full schedule for guest appearances will be announced at a later date.
“The Shock are grateful to have such a great supporting partner who shares the excitement of arena football in Spokane,” said Shock director of operations Ryan Eucker. “VPI Home Solutions has been a great partner of the Shock for the past nine seasons and we’re excited to kick off the Shock VPI Radio Network with Larry Weir on 700-AM ESPN in 2015.”
