Thunder Assigned Experienced AFL Receiver Lacey
Wednesday January 21, 2015
PORTLAND – The Portland Thunder have acquired wide receiver V’Keon Lacey, head coach Mike Hohensee announced on Tuesday.
“V’Keon brings a veteran presence to our receiving corps, one that is physical and productive in the red-zone,” said Hohensee.
Lacey (6-4, 220, Angelo State) enters his third season in the AFL, and his first in a Thunder uniform after a successful 2014 season with the Philadelphia Soul. In his 13 appearances for the Soul last season, V’Keon averaged nearly 11 yards per catch, making 41 receptions for 447 yards and 12 touchdowns. Lacey had one catch, for 10 yards and a touchdown in the Soul’s playoff loss to Cleveland.
V’Keon joined the Soul after spending 2013 with the Cedar Rapids Titans. Seeing action in 9 games for the IFL outfit, Lacey made 23 catches for 255 yards, and 8 scores. A native of Arlington, TX, V’Keon played collegiately at NCAA/Div. II Angelo State, amassing 127 receptions for 1447 yards and 15 touchdowns in his two seasons for the Rams.
Off the field, Lacey works regularly with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s “Out of the Darkness” Walks, and was awarded with the AFL’s Pulse Community MVP award in Week 20 of the 2014 season for those philanthropic efforts. The three to five mile walks are designed to bring families, friends, colleagues and supporters together to help raise awareness in local communities about teen suicide. The AFL Pulse Community MVP is awarded each week during the regular season in recognition of player’s commitment to community service.
To make room for Lacey’s addition, rookie WR Hollis Moore was reassigned. Moore was originally assigned to the Thunder roster on December 15, 2014.
