Who Will Be The Next AFL Star to Come From An Open Tryout?
Portland, Ore. – The Portland Thunder will hold open tryouts for players hoping to make the 2015 roster on December 1-2 at the Oregon Soccer Center in Clackamas. At least one participant is guaranteed to make it to training camp with the squad.
Quarterbacks, wide receivers, and defensive backs will be evaluated on Monday, December 1. Linemen, fullbacks, and linebackers will be evaluated on Tuesday, December 2. Registration on both days will take place at 7:30 a.m. and workouts will begin at 9:00. Participants will be tested in the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, and broad jump, and will be evaluated in position drills and one-on-one drills.
"We know that the Northwest is one of the great relatively untapped football regions,” said Thunder Head Coach Mike Hohensee. “Last year, three guys [Brandon Lockheart, Brandon Tett, and Dustin Risseeuw] made the Thunder after impressing at the open tryout and I’m looking forward to finding the next guy everyone missed.”
The tryout is open to anyone over the age of 18 who has completed high school and is not currently under contract with any professional football team. Kickers will not be evaluated at this year’s tryout. Participants should wear turf shoes or tennis shoes; no cleats or spikes will be allowed at the event.
Pre-register before Wednesday, November 26, and save $20 on registration fees! Sign up at www.portlandthunder.com/team/tryouts. Hotel information for out-of-town participants will be made available at a later date.
