Tuesday October 7, 2014

Big target joins Jacksonville's receiving corps

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Sharks announced Monday that the team added another veteran target to its receiving corps, as Chase Deadder has been assigned to the Jacksonville roster on a one-year contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 25-year-old Deadder (6’5”, 230) brings size, strength and experience to the Sharks’ offense, as he enters his third season in the AFL. This past season, Deadder made four appearances with the New Orleans VooDoo, totaling 25 receptions for 277 yards and five touchdowns. Deadder hauled in 10 receptions in the VooDoo’s season opener against Tampa Bay, then later snared three touchdown catches in a matchup against the Portland Thunder.

Deadder first broke into the AFL with the Utah Blaze in 2013, playing all but one of the Blaze’s games during his rookie campaign. That season, Deadder finished as Utah’s second-leading receiver as he racked up 85 receptions for 793 yards and 15 touchdowns. Deadder also served as a threat on the ground in short-yardage situations, scoring six rushing touchdowns on his 18 carries. Deadder caught at least one touchdown pass in each of the Blaze’s final six games of the season.

Before heading to arena football, Deadder spent time with the Tennessee Titans following the 2012 NFL Draft. Deadder was a standout at Sacramento State University, where he earned Second Team All-Big Sky honors in 2010 after collecting 37 receptions for 788 yards and six touchdowns. Deadder is a native of Modesto, California.
