Phil Bogle, Derek Stingley join Soul staff

Bogle Returns, Stingley Welcomed to Philadelphia Coaching Staff for 2015
PHILADELPHIA (September 30, 2014) – The Philadelphia Soul announce the return of Phil Bogle as assistant head coach/line coach and welcome Derek Stingley as defensive coordinator for the 2015 season. Bogle enters his fourth season as a Soul coach after leading an offensive line that allowed the fewest sacks (7) for the third straight year and had three All-Arena selections (Derrick Ross, Teddy Jennings and Wayne Tribue) under his guidance in 2014. Stingley spent time as head coach in New Orleans and Pittsburgh, as well as different stints as defensive coordinator in the AFL.
Earlier this month, the Soul announced that Clint Dolezel agreed to a two-year deal to return to the team as the head coach.
“Teamed with Clint (Dolezel), Phil and Derek will make our staff one of the best in the AFL,” said Soul General Manager, Tom Goodhines. “All three coaches have championship experience and outstanding work ethics. Phil continues to prove that he is one of the top assistant coaches in the AFL with his players being named All-Arena, year-in and year-out. Derek is a sharp defensive mind and will be able to bring a unique perspective and attitude to our secondary.”
Bogle played as a lineman for the Soul in 2007-08. He won All-Rookie team and First-team All-Arena in 2007. In 2008, he won First-Team All-Arena again, and the ArenaBowl XXII Championship. He was a finalist for the League’s Lineman of the Year award.
In 2010, Bogle played for the Dallas Vigilantes as a guard/tight end. While there, he recorded four receptions for 19 yards, one touchdown, and one tackle. He has also spent time in the CFL with the Montreal Alouettes (2009), in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2006 and ‘08), Cleveland Browns (2005), San Diego Chargers (2003) and in the NFL Europe with the Hamburg Sea Devils (2006).
Bogle spent his collegiate career at the University of New Haven (1999-2002) as an offensive tackle. The two-season captain was a First-Team Division II All-Independent selection as a senior in 2002 and the winner of the Jim Langer Award. He also received the 2003 New Haven Male Athlete of the Year and the 2002 Cactus Bowl MVP awards.
Derek Stingley, who is the son of former New England Patriot Darryl Stingley, comes to the Soul after he most recently served as head coach of the Pittsburgh Power. He first joined Pittsburgh as a defensive coordinator in 2012 before being promoted to head coach 10 games into the season.
In 2013, his defensive unit surrendered a League-low 254.9 yards per game and ranked atop the AFL in pass defense. Stingley began his coaching career in the AFL's developmental league, af2, in 2005. He served as defensive coordinator for the Macon Knights before being promoted to head coach midway through the year. He stayed with the Knights through the 2006 season before joining the South Georgia Wildcats.
In three years with the Wildcats, Stingley compiled a 30-13 record and was named af2 Coach of the Year in 2008. Stingley was named head coach of the New Orleans VooDoo in 2010 and coached his lone season with the team in 2011.
Prior to coaching, Stingley enjoyed an eight-year playing career in the AFL. He spent five of his eight AFL seasons with the Albany Firebirds, where he was named a First Team All-Arena defensive back in 1999 and played a key role on that season's ArenaBowl XIII championship team. He was named to the League's 15th Anniversary Team in 2001 and finished his playing career in 2004 with 443 tackles, 19 interceptions and 110 passes defended. Stingley also had a brief stint with the New York Jets of the NFL in 1999 and played minor league baseball in the Philadelphia Phillies farm system.
