Sandy Switches Thunders: Stockton to Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – Brian Sandy, an Aloha High School and University of Oregon graduate, returns to the Rose City, where he will assume the reins as Portland Thunder president.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to return to Portland,” said Sandy. “I’ve worked with many of the teams, people, and companies in the area and I look forward to continuing and strengthening those relationships. The Thunder have done a great job in their inaugural season and I look forward to helping the team achieve even more as we wrap up the 2014 season and start looking toward 2015.”

“It’s also great to be reunited with my family in the Portland area – it’s never easy being separated.”

Sandy joins the Portland Thunder via the ECHL’s Stockton Thunder. Under Sandy’s leadership, the Stockton Thunder renegotiated its lease with the City of Stockton, unveiled a multiyear Season Ticket Plan designed to give fans premium benefits, oversaw the affiliation agreement with the New York Islanders and was the brainchild behind the Rough & Ready Islanders and We Paint the Ice Night promotions.

Prior to Stockton, Sandy worked in senior sales roles with the Portland Beavers, Portland Timbers, and Portland Trailblazers, as well as with the Tri-City Americans and Tri-City Dust Devils.

Sandy will officially join the Portland Thunder on Saturday, July 12, at the Red Out as the Thunder take on the Los Angeles KISS at 7 p.m. in a game with huge playoff implications.
