Monday June 23, 2014

PHOENIX, Ariz. (June 21, 2014) – Hoping to become the first team to defeat the Arizona Rattlers (14-0) in 335 days, the LA KISS (3-10) came up short in the desert Saturday evening, 83-47.

Nick Davila threw for 373 yards and eight touchdowns, with Rod Windsor hauling in five of those scoring tosses, to help Arizona reach an all-time AFL-best 14-0 start. Donovan Morgan led the KISS with 11 catches for 133 yards and three touchdowns in the loss.

Los Angeles kicked off the scoring with a touchdown pass from Aaron Garcia to Samora Goodson for the early lead. Arizona bounced right back with Windsor’s first touchdown catch of the evening to knot up the score at 7-7. Kenny Guiton, responded on 3rd and goal from the 1-yard line, finding Morgan in the back of the end zone for a 14-7 KISS lead.

The Rattlers’ offense became nearly unstoppable from that point on, as Davila and Tysson Poots connected on two consecutive scoring passes to give Arizona a 21-14 advantage. LA pulled within a point after a 27-yard Garcia missile found Morgan in the end zone. However, Arizona answered immediately with a scoring strike to Maurice Purifoy for a 28-20 lead. Two more touchdown receptions by Windsor, the last coming in the final seconds of the half, gave Arizona a comfortable 42-20 lead heading into the locker room.

Arizona continued to roll in the second half, scoring on an Alex Singleton rushing touchdown on its first series after the break. The KISS broke the 28-0 run with another touchdown catch by Morgan to cut the deficit to 49-27, but the red-hot Davila hooked up with Windsor on touchdown passes of 43 and 45 yards, respectively, to increase the gap to 62-27. Although Brandon Thompkins and Raymond Radway combined for three late scores, Arizona managed the 83-47 victory.

Next week, the KISS will play the first of two straight home games when they battle the Spokane Shock, June 28 at the Honda Center. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (PDT). Single game tickets are still available at ticketmaster.com or the Honda Center box office.
