SAN ANTONIO – The New Orleans VooDoo (2-6) defeated the San Antonio Talons (1-8), 62-44, on Saturday night. It was the first time in franchise history the VooDoo came away with a win against the Talons, avenging a loss to San Antonio earlier this season.
VooDoo quarterback Kurt Rocco finished the game 14-of-30 for 263 yards and seven touchdowns with two interceptions on the night. He found receiver L.J. Castile seven times for 121 yards and three scores in the game, while No. 2 target Dwayne Eley, Jr. finished with three catches for 95 yards and a pair of scores before leaving the game with an injury. Veteran wideout Carlese Franklin spelled Eley, finishing the night with two touchdowns himself. Cameron McGlenn led the VooDoo’s defensive effort, registering nine tackles and two interceptions on the night.
Shane Boyd completed 14-of-31 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions for the Talons. PJ Berry hauled in the team’s lone passing touchdown of the evening, with Mykel Benson and Marcus Jackson accounting for the other offensive scores on the ground. Kyle Whitehurst recorded a pick-six in the contest, while Kelvin Rodgers tallied a kickoff return score as well.
The Talons head to Portland next weekend for a matchup with the Thunder while New Orleans returns home to host the Iowa Barnstormers
