Tuesday December 17, 2013

Member of 2008 Championship Team Returns as Assistant Head Coach

PHILADELPHIA (December 13, 2013) – The defending back-to-back American Conference Champion Philadelphia Soul announce the return of Phil Bogle as assistant head coach and line coach for the 2014 season. Bogle enters his third season as a Soul coach after leading an offensive line that allowed the fewest sacks (7) in the AFL and had three First-Team All-Arena (Brennen Carvalho, Christian Johnson and Bryan Robinson) selections under his guidance in 2013.

“Coach Bogle is one of the top assistants in the AFL,” said Soul head coach Clint Dolezel. “Phil brings championship experience and the results showed through the stats and recognition our ‘bigs’ received last season. He was a big part of our success and we are glad to have him back as we make another run at the title.”

Bogle played as a lineman for the Soul in 2007-08. He won All-Rookie team and First-team All-Arena in 2007. In 2008, he won First-Team All-Arena again, and the ArenaBowl XXII Championship. He was a finalist for the League’s Lineman of the Year award.

In 2010, Bogle played for the Dallas Vigilantes as a guard/tight end. While there, he recorded four receptions for 19 yards, one touchdown, and one tackle. He has also spent time in the CFL with the Montreal Alouettes (2009), in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2006 and ‘08), Cleveland Browns (2005), San Diego Chargers (2003) and in the NFL Europe with the Hamburg Sea Devils (2006).

Bogle spent his collegiate career at the University of New Haven (1999-2002) as an offensive tackle. The two-season captain was a First-Team Division II All-Independent selection as a senior in 2002 and the winner of the Jim Langer Award. He also received the 2003 New Haven Male Athlete of the Year and the 2002 Cactus Bowl MVP awards.
