SaberCats Send Pair of Linemen to NFL

Friday August 9, 2013

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats announced today that offensive lineman Dennis Godfrey and defensive lineman Jabari Fletcher have both signed with the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League. They are both expected to be active in tonight’s preseason game against the Oakland Raiders at the O.co Coliseum in Oakland at 7:00 p.m. PT

"This is an incredible opportunity for both Dennis and Jabari," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "I am very happy for both of them and I wish nothing but the best for them in their time with the Cowboys."

Godfrey (6-3, 335, Wake Forest) started in the final three regular season games after being acquired by the SaberCats mid-season. In addition to being a staple along the offensive line, Godfrey showed his offensive versatility by rushing for 20 yards on six attempts and one touchdown from the fullback position. The Sanford, N.C. native was solid in pass protection for San Jose, who finished the season ranked fifth in the Arena Football League in sacks allowed, with just 20.

Fletcher (6-3, 260, Appalachian State) appeared in 15 games for San Jose, including 12 starts, in his second year in the league. Fletcher displayed his ironman talents on both sides of the ball all season after racking up 21.5 total tackles (15 solo), six sacks, a pair of fumble recoveries and an interception. Moreover Fletcher accrued 45 rush yards on 21 attempts and a team-high nine touchdowns on the ground as a goal line back. The former Appalachian State Mountaineer played a big part on special teams as well, as the long snapper and a significant part of the kick return and coverage team. During the 2012 campaign Fletcher split time between the Arizona Rattlers and the Jacksonville Sharks and accumulated eight tackles in eight total appearances.
