Training Plan Announced with Two Exhibition Games Set For October 2013

Thursday February 14, 2013

PHILADELPHIA, PA, February 13, 2013 – Following an extremely successful trip to Beijing, China, AFL Global, in partnership with Ganlan Media International, formally announces plans to further develop professional American Arena Football in China by Fall of 2014. A comprehensive football training program has been set for May 2013 in Beijing, followed by exhibition games in two different cities, Beijing and Guangzhou, in October 2013. This will mark the first time professional American football will be played in China with the support of the Chinese government and the CRFA (Chinese Rugby Football Association).

“We are very excited about this opportunity,” said AFL Global CEO Martin E. Judge, who together with ex-NFL great Ron Jaworski founded AFL Global in 2012. “The Chinese market is huge. Our hope is to introduce an official 6-team professional league that will begin regular season play in the Fall of 2014.”

Led by AFL Global President David Niu and Ganlan Media, International President David Wu, key members of his US-based team met with the AFL Global Chinese unit and visited the prestigious Beijing Sports University to finalize the May training camp.

“This is a significant first step for us,” says Niu. “The training facilities at the University are first-class in every way. This is where so many of their Olympic champion athletes train.”

It is anticipated that 40-60 Chinese athletic coaches and officials from cities throughout China will attend the training sessions in May 2013. The curriculum has been carefully designed to provide attendees with the proper accreditation that will allow them to begin training young Chinese athletes in football beginning this summer. American football coaches and officials selected by AFL Global will present the program to the attendees. AFL Global and the Beijing Sports University are currently working on an agreement to build a stand-alone arena football training facility on the campus; the first one of its kind in China.

Following the training, AFL Global will focus on producing two AFL exhibition games in China this Fall. The first game is scheduled for Saturday, October 12 in Beijing followed by a second, one week later on October 19, in Guangzhou.

AFL Global is actively searching for players and coaches to help build qualified teams for the official league play in 2014. One of the first anticipated tryouts, to be held in conjunction with the University of Hawaii, is tentatively scheduled to take place in late March.
