Shock OL Andrew Roxas donates to Locks of Love

SPOKANE, WA (February 7, 2013) – Shock offensive lineman and former Washington State University Cougar Andrew Roxas recently strolled into an unfamiliar place that he hadn’t been to since 2007…a barbershop.

After growing his hair out over the past six years and only having a few trims done here and there to manage the growth, Andrew decided it was time to cut it off and saw Locks of Love as the perfect opportunity to give back as well as honor his Mother who was diagnosed with breast cancer when he was only a sophomore at St. Francis High School. Since the school’s dress code policies did not allow students to have long hair, Andrew began growing it out once he began his collegiate career. Andrew’s mother has now been in remission for eight years.

Recently, Andrew stepped into Fantastic Sam’s in Burbank, CA and cut off not one, but two 14-inch pony tails which were immediately mailed off to Locks of Love in West Palm Beach, FL. “It was a great feeling being able to cut it to honor my Mom. It’s definitely different not having it but my hair will grow back, hopefully.”

ABOUT LOCKS OF LOVE
Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.
