 Reed added and McIlwain activated

Mesa, AZ – The Arizona Rattlers have announced that wide receiver Kerry Reed has been assigned to the team on a two year contract and defensive back Kamaal McIlwain has been activated from other league exempt.

In his second season with the Rattlers, Reed recorded 184 catches for 2,276 yards and 47 touchdowns in 2012. He was second on the team in all three categories.

Reed, 6’2” 205, tallied 64 catches for 677 yards and 16 TDs during the 2011 season. Before joining the Rattlers, Reed spent time with the Miami Dolphins, the Baltimore Ravens as well as the Canadian Football League.

“Kerry is a guy who bought in from the first day he walked in the door. Watching the process of his development has been encouraging,” said Head Coach and General Manager Kevin Guy. “He is a durable player and is strong at the reception point. We need his productivity to keep increasing like it did from his first to second year.”

McIlwain originally joined the Rattlers on December 3 before signing with the Carolina Panthers on December 12, finishing out the Panthers season on their practice squad.

McIlwain, a 5’10”, 195 pound corner and two-time all-South Atlantic Conference selection at Newberry College, finished his collegiate career with a total of 93 tackles, six interceptions, 24 pass defenses, four blocked kicks and two touchdowns.

Posting an exceptional 4.36 40 on his pro day, McIlwain went to training camp with the Atlanta Falcons before spending the final two months of the 2011 season on the New Orleans Saints practice squad.
