WR assigned for two years
Mesa, AZ – The Arizona Rattlers have announced that standout wide receiver Maurice Purify has been assigned to the team, signing a two year contract.
“No doubt we got better as a team today. Maurice is healthy and ready to be back with the team,” said Head Coach and General Manager Kevin Guy.
In his first season with the Rattlers, Purify recorded 154 receptions for 2,351 yards and 63 touchdowns, earning him First-Team All-Arena honors. His 47 regular season touchdowns tied the Rattlers’ single season record set by Rod Windsor in 2010.
The 2011 Arena Football League Rookie of the Year, Purify tore up opposing defenses during his first year in the league. In 16 games he had 130 receptions for 1,653 yards and 46 touchdowns. He finished the season 3rd in the league in receiving TDs, 7th in receptions and 9th in total receiving yards.
A product of Nebraska, the 6’3, 225-pound Purify spent time in the NFL before coming to the AFL. He was signed by the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent in 2008. Purify made his NFL debut against Pittsburgh during week 9; playing offense he recorded one special teams tackle.
“It's difficult for other teams to match up with Maurice because of the physicality he brings to our offense and run after the catch ability,” said Guy. “Maurice is one of those throw back players who truly loves playing the game.”
