Defensive Back Travis Williams Added to Roster
TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Storm is pleased to announce the addition of defensive back Travis Williams. He was a key contributor to the Spokane Shock defense in its victory over the Storm in ArenaBowl XXIII.
“Travis is a guy who has experience in this league,” said vice president of football operations Jeff Gooch. “He has the ability to play each position in the defensive backfield and has shown a knack for getting his hand on the football. With the speed he has and ability to make plays we are pleased to have him join our team.”
Williams (5-foot-10, 180 lbs., East Carolina) began his professional career with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2008. In 2009 he joined the Arkansas Twisters (af2). Williams then spent two seasons with the Shock (2010, 2012) while also playing in the Canadian Football League with the British Columbia Lions (2010-11). In 17 regular season games with the Shock he recorded 85 tackles, 22 pass breakups, six interceptions, one returned for a touchdown and a forced fumble.
Prior to turning pro, he was a standout for the ECU Pirates where, defensively, he racked up 156 tackles, four interceptions and three forced fumbles. On Special teams he returned 39 punts for 517 yards (13.3 avg.) and a touchdown and added another 11 kickoff returns for 249 yards (22.6 avg.).
