Spokane adds depth at defensive back and wide receiver

SPOKANE, WA (November 8, 2012) – The Shock have been assigned defensive back Josh Pleasant and wide receiver Duane Brooks to the 2013 roster.

Pleasant, a product of Kent State, joins the Shock in 2013 for his AFL rookie season. Pleasant played four seasons for the Flash and received All-MAC second-team honors his senior season as he recorded 59 tackles, 11 pass break-ups, and two interceptions.

“Pleasant has the athleticism to turn and run with receivers, but also has the toughness we’re looking for at the defensive back position,” said Shock General Manager Ryan Rigmaiden.

Brooks, a product of Stephen F. Austin University, joins the Shock for his AFL debut after spending the last two seasons with the IFL’s Colorado Ice. In 2012, Brooks played in 12 regular season games with the Ice and recorded 48 receptions for 469 yards and 6 touchdowns in the regular season. During his rookie campaign in 2011, Brooks competed in 14 games on his way to registering 51 receptions for 645 yards and 10 touchdowns in the regular season. Brooks’ junior and senior seasons at Stephen F. Austin after transferring from Central Michigan were extremely productive. As a junior and then a senior, Brooks broke the SFA’s and his own single-season records for receptions (68 in 2008 and 118 in 2009).

“Brooks is an extremely quick receiver with kick return ability. He has the experience, agility and speed to be a big weapon in our offense,” said Shock General Manager Ryan Rigmaiden.
