Friday October 12, 2012
CHICAGO – The Arena Football League has partnered with FilmOn, the world's first IP-delivered cable television platform, to launch the AFL Classic channel, the League office announced today.
The partnership will enable historic AFL games and content to be streamed on FilmOn.tv, as well as broadcast on the Los Angeles-based television station, KILM.
“FilmOn is a very innovative company with an eye towards the future,” Arena Football League Commissioner Jerry B. Kurz said. “We know that our fans will be excited to watch some of our most historic games on the FilmOn networks.”
The AFL Classic library will consist of games including multiple ArenaBowls and a number of recent national broadcasts which fans will be able to view as one of the free channels on FilmOn.tv. This will be coupled with the airing of games on KILM-TV beginning this Sunday, October 14 from 12-3 p.m. PT.
“We’re very excited about the partnership with AFL”, FilmOn CEO Alki David said. “We know fans of Arena Football will enjoy watching classic games on TV and on the many digital platforms we offer. Because sport is so popular on FilmOn’s global service, we’ll be able to export the brand internationally for the League.”
In addition to computer streaming, fans may also download the FilmOn apps for iPhone, iPad, Droid devices and Facebook for premium content on the go.
“FilmOn is new, it’s aggressive, and it’s versatile,” Arena Football League Vice President of Broadcast, Communications and Branding Anthony Herron said. “They’ve already done remarkable things through the leadership of Alki David and we believe this partnership will allow us a number of ways to continue exposing the AFL brand to viewers.”
This is the first partnership of its kind for the Arena Football League where historic content will air consistently on multiple platforms. More updates will follow on the launch date for the AFL Classic channel on FilmOn.tv.
